Lalgarh was just another village at 42 kilometer from midnapore railway station,before november 2008. Not anymore it is now a centre of a movement by people who constitute 10 percent of india's population ,an icon of defiance of adivashi (tribal people) against their history of discrimination and oppression.
It is the expression of rage ,rage against the denied development and justice for the place untouched by development for three decades.
The Shalbani land mine explosion which was targeted at chief minister buddhdeb convoy returning from the proposed jindal steel plant in sez ,result in hyperactivity of police in the area.
As always showing proactive nature to immediately find the culprits they pick the easy targets tribal people of lalgarh.The most detailed map shows a narrow road to from midnapore railway station which ends abruptly near pirahkata. Lalgarh is connected to pirahkata with a well made road,but it it is used scantily by the population possessing no cars and even motorbikes are rarity.Quality of road is not for the people but for the fast and easy transport of police and paramilitary forces.Direction of development was not for the people.


The tranquility of village was disturbed every now and then until recently by rumbling police jeeps and vans which pick up adivashi for questioning accompanied by sadistic torture both physical and psychological.People are picked up and detained for interrogation for even three months without any concrete reason and any legal charge sheet.All they wish is a day without terror and torture.



Just after the shalboni incident on 2nd November 2008 police from Lalgarh and Ramgarh stations started a joint operation in villages which are 2-6 miles away from each other and surrounded by forest .In the village chotopelia in one house a guest was singaled by police and labeled as outsider came to carry out shalboni landmine operation.The headmaster of katapahari school was detained on the base of being maoist conspirator.Four other students are also picked up to make a flawless lie on which press will endorse.Further detention continued all night which triggered the mass protests.
